Jazz that has some rock influence in it. the song War dance by Colosseum II is a perfect example. Love fast jazz with groovey guitars.

check out the album Life Begins Again by Jimmy Chamberlin Complex. About half the songs are instrumental and they rip.

Miles always treats you well whichever phase he's in

John McLaughlin live was possibly the most intense show I have ever been to - I went home exhausted. The band took about ten minutes to reach a peak and then held it there. I can only wish I was around to see them in the 70s, when they were young.

While I hate Pat Metheny's tone and hairstyle, he's a brilliant player.

The albums I'd reccomend are:

Miles Davis:
In A Silent Way
Bitches Brew

Herbie Hancock:
Mwandishi
Crossings
Sextant

Mahavishnu Orchestra:
The Inner Mounting Flame
Birds of Fire

And any album from John McLaughlin or Pat Metheny.

Nobody's Mentioned Return to Forever yet?
Put it on the list!

If you're thinking Joe Pass, check out the stuff he did with Niels Pederson, so much badass its hard to control
