Vanishing Point. they play melodic metal, kinda reminded me of Firewind, and they supported Iron Maiden in Melbourne. also Frankenbok for heavier metal, but they're kind of underground and not for everyone.

Parkway Drive .... yeah everyone knows them.
If your into metal you should also check out Dyscord they're a band from perth and have a really original sound. The vocals can be a little irritating at first but once you get used to them you'll love dyscord. There's songs on thier myspace and if 'Divinity' is there I really think you should give it a listen.

Black Asylum were awesome thrash metal before they turned core and their lead guitarist left.

Then there's Dred, Murderworld, Sabretung, Chaos Divine, Psycroptic, Kill For Satan, that's all I can think of right now.

And of course Karnivool and JBT.

They preformed at my school in year 7. My music teacher was the sister of one of the members.

Airbourne is a copy of ACDC like Metallica was Iron Maiden on steriods at first. My brother actually thought The Four Horsemen was a Maiden song. So lay off Airbourne, they have a more modern sound, most of their songs are much faster paced, and the way the band has the guitars going sounds different to me than ACDC.

That being said, I like Airbourne and Wolfmother.

Hahaha you put Wolfmother in with the good bands trying to pass them off as good hahahahahaha

We all noticed, don't be stupid

Also, I'm australian and all my favourite bands are american. There's just something about Australian bands that annoys me. The sparsity in the recordings, no matter how filled they are... they still lack something. Take Diarama by Silverchair, it's an incredible album, but when you listen Thunderstuck by ACDC you can hear the same type of sound to it, even though they're nothing alike. They have the same "we're from Australia" feel to it.

Powderfigner is like the current epiphany of this "australian" feeling, and it's pretty common in Grinspoons music too.
