Hey fellows, as you guessed we are bringing you yet another site-approving topic for your discussion! But unlike the UG Digital Music Platform concept (which might take a while to be implemented) this one should be released in the very nearest future.

This time we're going to make our Ultimate-Guitar.Tv project look more like an actual TV... by bringing in the possibility of live webcasting! Ustream.tv (http://www.ustream.tv/) service will be used for this purpose and you, UG users, will be making the shows. News, your live gigs and garage rehearseals, studio work, everything else music-related that can be streamed live - build the UG.TV Live! yourself, and we will provide as many video chanels as needed. Along with that, expect a new IRC-network for you to communicate on a higher level of convenience.

But at this stage, to make everything well-organized, we need to learn who'd love to participate (and what kind of "live shows" you can offer), who could modarate the channels (although I don't think we'll have problems with that task).

As always, please feel free to express your opinion, offer something more, and let us know if you want a slot on the channel!

exactly how i feel about this idea. great idea to give people exposure and whatnot, but are people really going to use it? if people really wanted to video tape themselves playing live or whatever couldn't they just upload it to youtube and link to it in their profile or signature?

+1 great idea, I'm all 4 it

Ive already made some videos for the R&R section on recording and would be more than happy to do some live shows on recording or even drumming if its wanted, (I own some electronic drums)

Hmmm... I don't thin there'd be enough content for broadcast all day every day... And bringing money to the table would surely influence things in a bad way... But it'd still be good.

I'd certainly participate :) "In the Studio with Metal House Project" to go along with the exclusive release of our EP on UG Music Platform :p:

I honestly don't know what I'd be able to contribute - maybe run-throughs of soundchecking and rehearsals at the church I play guitar for.

I think the UG album shows that this site does have some great talent on tap, so I'd definitely be interested to see what turns up.

I agree... Hats off to UG

OddOneOut
04-25-2008, 12:55 PM
Pretty cool, but I think you'd need some sort of crap filter. :P
The main issue is, will users actually use it?

I can see their being plenty of people willing to create shows for UG but maybe not enough people to watch.
I think the occasional show streaming live would be good though.
Agh, kinda hard to express everything. It could go either way really.

04-25-2008, 01:35 PM
Awsome Idea. I doubt I'll watch the amatuer stuff like rehersals, but for lessons or something, definetly.

Phill-Rock
04-25-2008, 01:42 PM
It sounds like a great idea. I'm not in the position to provide any shows for it though.

Music news
Genre specific channels
Gear reviews
Live gigs (from unsigned to bigger bands)
And maybe even some music-related fiction would be good (maybe an amateur adaption of Nolan Whyte's work?) , who could modarate the channels (although I don't think we'll have problems with that task).

If you needed moderators, I'd be more than happy to help. But like you said, I doubt you'll have a problem finding a lot of people willing to do it.

StrokeMidnight
04-25-2008, 01:49 PM
You should put it in place, and if there aren't enough live shows fill it up with lessons or stuff like that that you already have on regular UG TV. Then if you can find people to fill up the time take those off.

Is there any real point to making things "live"? UG has users in many different time zones, there's no way you could have things on at times where everyone would be awake.

Unless you're planning to put stuff up for streaming too?

Streaming TV dosen't seem like a good idea.

With the maturity level of most pitters, I would deffinetly be unsurprised, if we'll get atleast two penises flashed a day.

Lessons are better pre-recorded, because it's not like you can see what your student is doing wrong, and if it's a one on one thing they can just do it on MSN.

The only part I actually like is the jam sessions\shows streamed, but I doubt people would adctually do that because all of the pre arrangments.

Just my two cents.

Edit:
Exactly. It might be successful for a month or so, but I think it would die out quickly.

That being said, if it happens, I'd participate.

this would be pretty kewl. it'd be great to participate and watch, but it'd be kewl to have like a vote on what would be on there so that we don't get 500 replica programs and boring ones. Not to knock anyone's ideas but if it's our shows and we're the audience too it would be better to be able to choose what is shown

As always, please feel free to express your opinion, offer something more, and let us know if you want a slot on the channel!good idea ug

04-27-2008, 02:20 PM
Once again, I must say. It sounds like a cool idea, but not a useful or practical one. I doubt I would watch it much, and I'm not sure how many "shows" you could get. If people really wanted to show a video they might as well use Youtube and put links in their profile. They would get a lot more views on Youtube as well.
