Ya I stole the idea.
Basically the idea here is to post a mix of some of your favorite blues and jazz for all to give a listen to. You can upload them to www.muxtape.com or http://megaupload.com/.
Try to keep it to a half hour or less so people don't get bored waiting for it to download.
Every 2 weeks we'll put up a new mix. So go ahead and sign up for what time you would like. I'll start it the first week of June.

I'm going to start it out at every 2 weeks but if that becomes too slow we can make it weekly.

That's the idea. But more blues/jazz based. If somebody wants to throw in something else I have no problem but lets try to keep it predominantly blues/jazz.

TheDev01dOne
05-28-2008, 03:17 PM
Yeah can I get explanation of how this is gonna work cos I have no idea..

I figured that maybe once a week or fortnight we could just have someone upload a mix then update it with someone elses for the next time.. If that makes sense. Like one person at a tie so everyone gets a fair chance at having theirs listened to instead of just posting them all at once. Maybe do like an hour each since some blues songs go for like 10min+ so half hour might be tricky if you choose a long song.

Anyway I that how it works?

But yeah I'm definitely keen, I'm sure I have loads of stuff not many people know and I'm always searching for new music to listen to.

So yeah, maybe start a sign-up roster for when you want them and we can start getting them ready?

Sign me up for one anyway I'll start making mine now.

ze monsta

I've kinda made one...just to clarify:

-A new one gets put up every 2 weaks.
-30 minutes/1 hour slots
-with a rota, keeping it mainly to regulars theres a growing amount and we could send some pms out to people that might be interested.

or is it like, everyone puts up 30 mins of music together and it all goes into one program kinda thing; and then we make a new one in 2 weaks?

sre9981
05-28-2008, 04:09 PM
Methinks weekly would be better. Muxtape has a 12 song limit i think, which puts us at about an hour for 4-5.5 minute songs. Signup by week, archive old shows?

Let us start a list of who wants one:

1 user every 2 weeks. Gives folks a chance to listen to it. If you could try to keep your mix to 30 minutes just to make the dl easier. As many songs as you like in the 30 minutes. Or shorter if you prefer. And ya I'll start posting a roster. If you'd like to be 1st I'll put you down for June 1st. Then next person Jun15th and so on.

05-28-2008, 04:56 PM
Sure thing sir.

So I just upload it to there and then post a link, I take it?

Jackal58
05-28-2008, 05:08 PM
Ya. That's it. I'll edit the link into the op so people don't have to search for it.
As soon as you're ready lemme know and we'll get this show started.
I probably won't be back on tonight so if you put it up I'll post it in the morning.
Bowling ftw!

ze monsta
05-28-2008, 05:10 PM
Cool, have a good time. :)
I'm gonna make some adjustments now then.

MONSTA EDIT:

I'm gonna upload it now, it's 38 minutes long and has 12 tracks. Just some of my favourite tunes in a decent order, that I like to think tells a story. :o

gopherthegreat
05-28-2008, 05:21 PM
i think it should be one week. i mean, two seems too slow in my opinion.

ze monsta
05-28-2008, 05:25 PM
^ I agree, it's not gonna take a weak to listen to about 10-15 songs, and we can always leave all of them up there at the top so that people can go back and listen to them. I'd be happy to edit my post at the top to put everything in there, seeing as I'm fairly active in here. :)

MONSTA EDIT: Ignore that idea. You can only have 12 tracks at a time on Muxtape, so that's not feasible.

MONSTA EDIT2: I've encountered a small problem...on Muxtape, it has to be an MP3 and all of my files are WMA.
Trying Megaupload now...I think it's pretty slow on single tracks and it's annoying to download everything separately...this is a bit of a hassle.

Anyone able to tell me how to get all the tracks into one file? :(

TheDev01dOne
05-28-2008, 05:34 PM
Am I allowed to do it differently and mix the songs into 1 long track with Audacity so it actually is like a proper mix tape/radio and you can't skip past songs? So have a folder with just the audio file and a notepad document that tells you: Artist - Track Title - Album - Any other random info about it you want to add?

Seems like a cool way to do it so if I'm allowed to do that just lemme know and I'll start mixing it.

Would also make it easier to fit the time constraints for people you could cut down long songs and just have little tastes of some stuff with maybe some full songs thrown in aswell?

BTW tht is all subject to me learning how to use Audacity first Lol

ze monsta
05-28-2008, 05:39 PM
^ That's kinda what I want to do, having single files is just really really long.

Dimebag22

Sounds like a good idea.

ze monsta

Nothing is set in stone. I just figured if we start at 2 weeks and see how long it takes for all interested to get around to listening will give us an idea of the timeframe that will work.

I hope this continues for a while I have a few good ones planned. I thought I'd theme mine just to make it a bit interesting. First one is all Australian artists. I think its about 45mins long, 10 songs, a few are quite long or repetetive so I've cut them short just to save time. Hope you guys enjoy it anyway.

Tim, who the hell is singing Walkin Blues on your mix? It's hilarious.

It's a busker/street musician from Canberra. He calls himself The Amazing Brainboy. I don't think he can sing properly so he just kinda talks like that on all his stuff and plays a lot of instrumental stuff, damn good slide player though. Got send the recordings from a friend on soulseek, he gave her a CD at a blues festival somewhere I believe. It's just rough live recordings of him busking but cool to listen to.

EDIT: BTW sign me up for another one if I can jump back on the end of the list and I'll get it sorted ready to go.

My mix is an equal mix of my favorite jazz and blues, hopefully some stuff you guys haven't heard before. Pay special attention to the Grateful Dead track, once Jerry Garcia starts soloing he tears **** UP, and the whole band falls into a crushing groove that has blown the minds of even my most anti-dead head friends. It'll make you forget the Black Crowes ever did Hard To Handle.

What's on it?

It takes my shitty computer too long to go through the whole process of downloading and then transferring the file in a different type or w/e. So I tend to find the songs on Youtube, or w/e.

the list is this

Cry before I Go- John Lee Hooker

Shake- North Mississippi Allstars

Looking Back - John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers

I Wonder Who- Rory Gallagher (Irish Tour version)

Maki Madni (feat. Rahat Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan) - Derek Trucks band

Jumping at Shadows- Peter Green

Catfish Blues- Skip James

Walking By Myself- Freddie King

Steppin' Out- John Mayall

Sitting on the dock of the bay- Otis redding

Show Biz Blues- Fleetwood mac

you'll probably have most if not all of these already anyways

I have them all except of Shake and Derek Trucks. I don't have any DT stuff, my brother's got a few albums on his laptop, from a friend but I don't actually own any, unfortunately. Something I need to rectify soon. :)

OK I'll throw my hat in the ring. I don't thinks that blues regulars will find any thing new.

lol, yeah, my roommate in Calgary had a whole bunch of albums and he had a bunch of old blues stuff, when i moved out he gave them to me, I got Robert Johnson's complete recordings on vinyl, as well as a Yardbirds Album, and a best of freddie king on vinyl

that album is awesome, most of it is just Fred talking and playing slide at the same time, but it's so interesting to hear his thoughts on the blues

This died a while ago, but I thought we could bring it back. We've got some new regulars now. So even those in the John Mayer thread can contribute. :p:

It doesn't have to be blues or jazz, *almost* anything goes ;) . It can be anything. Keep it to 30/40 minutes and keep the files small and easy to access.

Awesome.

Is Shake it and Break it, Charley Patton?
As in:

shake it and break it, hang it on the wall
You can throw it out the window, catch it 'fore it fall

I think I used to have it, now that I think about it.

I haven't been able to get my hands on any Charley Patton, yet, though.

The Canned Heat version is excellent, though.

Can I just say, over the last month or so I have downloaded the "Radio Shows" and my only problem with it is this,,,,,,

Surely this is too good to be true? Not that anyone can really claim this, but, I thought I had a fairly good grasp on Blues but I was wrong, some of the songs you guys have included have blown me away as much as the first time I heard (insert your blues hero here) for instance,

So just a big thanks from me for taking the time to do this sort of stuff. You have an avid UG blues radio listener here and I await the next show.

It will always be relaxing for me to listen to jazz music especially when I'm doing my work from home. I'm glad to have found this forum. :)
