We all love the blues here, right? We are all guitar players, right? So I think it's natural for us to have a thread where we can post and talk about our blues cover songs.

What y'all think?

Sounds great to me man. I love the blues, whether its playin em or listening to them. Though ive found that many guitarist who say "im a blues player" say it because they cant play very well and the blues is easy to mimic. And so you listen to them, and you realize they suck. badly. People need to learn that in order to play real blues, you have to feel it...cause blues just aint blues without emotion.

Exactly. You can't fake the blues.

I have a few blues covers on my profile, if anyone wants to check them out. (in fact all my music on there is blues).

I have the Blues album, and it's one of my favorites.

I really like my cover of John the Revelator that I just did. Still a rough cut, like all my songs.

I've only really covered one blues songs, but I just LOVE the beginning of SRV's Dirty Pool. The start of many an improv. As for the cover, it was Lenny and I hadn't gotten much practice on it so it isn't as smooth as it is now, but oh well.

Damn, that Asian girl is cute. I have a vid of me doing that song at a show, but I have to talk to some folks.

Yours is kinda funky. You playing through that Classic 30 over there?

Listened to a few of your tunes. Some good stuff man. I see you're also a fellow slide lover.

I've got the workings of a little slide tune in my profile.

Yeah it's Open D, and I'm using a glass slide

Really? It sounded to scratchy to be glass.

Oh well. It still sounded good.

I think my favorite cover right now is my John the Revelator cover.

Hm...Now that I listen to it more, I do hear that, and yeah, I'm playing the Classic 30. And must I say your John the Revelator cover's pretty nice. Always liked that song.

Heh, didn't notice that. It's the Classic 50, right smack-dab in the middle of those stacks, that I'm playing through.

I tried to think of all the blues songs I cover, the list is something like..

Hoochie Coochie man - Muddy Waters
Crawling Kingsnake - John Lee Hooker
Im gonna find another you - Jhn Mayer
I need you tonight - ZZ Top
Lets work together - Canned Heat
Evil - Howlin' Wolf
Stack Shot Billy - Black Keys (Which i usually add to with that "Don't nobody know my trouble but god, Oh lordy trouble so hard" song if anyone knows it.)
Bad Whiskey - Junior Wells and buddy guy
Hey Joe - Hendrix (I consider it blues)
Folsom Prison Blues - Johnny Cash

I think that's all so far but I usuall try to learn a new one every couple of weeks and figure out a decent arrangement for acoustic guitar since thats what I play most these days.

Subtract John Mayer from that and you'll have a damned good list.

I kinda want to cover John Lee Hooker's Ground Hog Blues.

I love that John Mayer song, its fun to be able to sing properly on some stuff. There's a fleetwood Mac song that uses the exact same chords/structure/pattern whatever so I wanna learn the lyrics to that one aswell but I can't remember the name of the song.

Bump because I have a whole bunch of new songs, including Stack Shot Billy up.

Your guitar playing is great on stack shot billy, but the singing is pretty off key in places. Nice use of wah!

and slide, now that I got to that part :)

I've got several blues covers in my profile. I'm most proud of Good Day Sunshine because of how it's such an out of genre style cover.

Yeah, I suck at singing and the way I record doesn't help.

Never heard that John Mayer song before but just looked it up for you. The Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac song you're thinking of is "Need Your Love So Bad".

That video's funny actually. Peter Green didn't play a Strat on this song, he used his legendary Les Paul, but because they were forced to mime anyway I guess he thought "f*ck it" and just used the Strat they had at the shoot!

Peter Green > John Mayer.
