I originally posted this in the PIT but Carmy closed it because she believed that the PIT would induce a lot of flaming. However, she has said I can try in B&A. If the moderators here believe this thread should also be closed, please do close it by all means. Hopefully, this thread won't have to if we can keep a intelligent discussion.

11. Jimi Hendrix

I found this online and it's actually Chet Atkins' take on the Top 11 most influential guitar players that have ever existed. Agree or not? Personally, I've heard everyone one of these guitar players except Lenny Breau and Johnny Smith. I quite like this list.

Quote from other thread:

Yeah, apparently he did, but I agree with him. Chet is a mammoth guitarist inspiring countless finger pickers such as Tommy Emmanuel and Mark Knofler.

I think I agree with Django being number 1 though. Out of all the artists I like (and that is a lot), all have responded by placing Django as their prime influence.

In truth yes, but these guitarists named above, according to Chet, have influenced all types of guitarists. There's classical guitar that's most definitely influenced a lot of the modern metal players, Jazz and Country.

I like the list becuase I like those guitarists, but it just seems like a list of guitarists that were influential to him. Jimmy Hendrix should be a lot higher - it just seems like he's tacked on at the end. Top 11 guitarists? :p: There seems to be a lot of obvious guitarists missing.

It's also unusual that he included himself in the list... I mean, he was influential, but not one of the top 10 most influential.
