Never really listened, this stuff is pretty cool, and their attitude about Warped makes me happy.

I've only ever heard "Are You There Margaret? It's Me, God" but I really like it.

the first thread I ever made here was a Lawrence Arms thread......the only answers were"No me gusto" and "Si yo tio".......that shows how the regulars have changed........back a year ago someone posted a link where you can download some live bootlegs

All in all they are are divided in two, they have a singer, or the singer has a voice which is really decent, but the other singer, or the singers other character is the ****.

the larry arms are great

i like chris's vocals the best, but i like it when they both sing

apathy & exhaustion is always good for a spin

I used to not like Chris' at all. I'd always skip his songs, but then I heard The Raw and Searing Flesh and it all kinda clicked. I still prefer Brandon's, though.

Brendan is hilarious as well. He's always really drunk live, which does a number on his voice and ability to keep up with the songs, but hearing his slurred jokes somewhat makes up for it.

I talked to Chris when they played in Baltimore (after Chris performed as Sundowner), and he's one of the nicest dudes in a band I've ever talked too. Up there with Dan Potthast from MU330.

EDIT: I feel like every time someone opens this thread, they should hear:

"I neeeeveerrr want, to see you..."

I have been listening to Apathy and Exhaustion continuously ever since I rediscovered it. I used to listen to it a lot back in my punk rock days and loved it.

But after all the shit that has been going on in my relationship and the "break" that we are on the album has a complete new meaning to me. I can't stop listening to it.

Anyone ever have this happen with an album?

I actually really enjoy the music, the melodies, pretty much everything about this band. Except the vocals. They irritate the crap out of me and I don't even know why.

What album is best for starters?

Keep in mind that I enjoy pop sensibilities and upbeat catchy melodies most of all.

I don't really have enough space to dl all 6.

Not that I'm DLing anything

Is anyone familiar with The Falcon? I know it's like an Alkaline Tio/Lawrence Arms combo. Same thing. Enjoy the music, but don't like the voice.

Oh Calcutta is there most upbeat, I would say

Also, Cory, you know they have two singers, right? Chances are, you'll probably like Chris' vocals better than Brendan's.

I'd say start with either ghost stories or a guided tour of chicago...then get oh calcutta...nothing else by them is all that good...

edit: this thread just reminded me how I got kicked out of a larry arms show a couple months ago... ****ing bouncers...

after that I was suppose to go see them at a basement show my pal moose of the brokedowns knew about where the larry arms were gonna play under a different name, but I busted my knee and couldn't go...but I have seen them a bunch of times so...no biggie...they aren't even that great...

Yeah, on Brendan's blog, he mentioned them practicing for the first time in a long time, and that they tried out a couple new songs.

Raindrops fell without rage
Eyes half-closed
Skin like dark gray metal
Inanimate and cold...

Another flame to my face
The smell of sulfur lingering away
You're here
For the perforation of the heart
Precise incisions; anesthetic dreams...

It's broken like a ticking watch
That need repairs
Shattered glass, exposed face
Waiting to be wound
Wounded like a friend of mine
Who eased his pain by killing time
Not letting it kill him...

When you wake up
You won't remember anything
But that night the ghosts
Wailed in the windstorm...

Cries sharp like a crescent moon
A sickle grazed against the skin
My breath fogged up the window
So I let the night breathe in...

I
I let the ghosts into my room
And listened to their screams
incessant whisperings
Singing
Singing...

Like music to my ears
Like music to my ears
Like music to my ears

A flash of life like lightning
Electric blinding blue
Reminded me of you

Great band.

I can relate to a lot of the songs on Apathy & Exhaustion. It's really hard for me to pick a favorite album though since I love the three that I have. "The Devil's Takin' Names" is one of the best opening songs ever.

I got Oh Calcutta on vinyl yesterday. I've slowly been getting into them more and more every day. Oh Calcutta really started to grow on me. Also, I gave The Falcon another listen and I don't mind the vocals anymore. I still don't like Neil Hennessy's drum playing though. It's alright, but I think it could be better.

TLA is my favorite band ever. I got a suicide king tattoo on my left arm.

I saw them on Friday at HOB in Chicago with The Bouncing Souls. Good shit. Brendan and Neil's side project The Falcon is playing this Saturday in Chicago as well. I kinda wish they still played VFW halls though. Seeing Neil drum with a picture of Stormin' Norman behind him will never be topped.

I do enjoy The Lawrence Arms, Sundowner and The Falcon...

But is it just me or are lyrics to some of their songs sort of like really bad borderline cheesey high school poetry?

Other than that these dudes rule.

I think Oh! Calcutta is their best album. Apathy and Exhaustion is a good record, but Chris's songs do seem like high school poetry. Its just a little too poppy.

For starters, you can't go wrong with Oh! Calcutta. I think its their most agressive album.

Oh Calcutta is delicious.

Everysong is good..

Dear Margaret is my favorite on it. followed by Great Lakes, and the Devil Is taking names.

Dear Margaret and The Devil's Takin' Names are my two favorite tracks from Oh Calcutta. Jumping The Shark, and Recovering The Opposable Thumb are close to it though.

They need to tour again.

I never get sick of this band. Liked em six years ago when most of my music taste sucked, like em now...just so good. The Broadways are definitely good though, as are most of the other related projects.
