I'm making a deathcore song and I really want this in the breakdown
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4U9xeUJY_Yo
beginning at 2:37, they use it a couple of times
it's like BOOM *breakdown*
how do I get that, and what is it called?
also, anyone know more sick breakdowns with these things?

It isn't. It is a sample. There has to be some sort of sampling thing to do it live. A lot of bands have their drummer have a little electronic pad hooked up to some sort of brain. The hitting of it triggers the sample.

Google 808 sample.
It's a bass drum sample commonly referred to as a bass drop. There's tons of variations of the 808 sample. I had a package of em a while back, you might be able to find that.

I've found myself getting more and more into it the more I listen to it. I still hate pig squeals and stuff, but I guess I just just pay more attention to the instruments than the singing, although I do like the not-so-deep vocals some bands have, reminds me of Converge.
I was listening to Elysia's deathcore stuff in my friends car the other day, and every time there was a bass boom his speakers would just shit out and make sounds like the fireworks at the end of the levels in Mario Bros. for NES.
So I cranked it.

My favorite bass drop is in Hey John Whats Your Name Again. The only song I like by The Devil Wears Prada.

Don't over use bass drops though as more than a couple in one song will sound pretty bad.

Bass drops are awesome, The Red Shore had their pad set up on their IKTPQ/BMTH tour, and seriously, you could feel the air coming out of the speakers.

Yes! The soundcheck for their drums was mad. He did like 10 in a row.
