How would i go about this (and should I)
 

Okay, so at the end of this academic year I finish my required amount of schooling. Therefore, a lot of the people i've shared the last 5 years with will be leaving me. As a way to remember them i want people to sign my guitar. Would it just be a matter of roughing up a bit of the finish and then putting on a little clearcoat after i'm finished? Also, do you reckon it would look a bit weird with a few signatures on the front, or should i do it on the back?

I would sand the finish (all of it), then refinish it without the clearcoat. Then, after everyone signs it, clearcoat it.

Why? I don't wanna pull my guitar apart really.

What kind of guitar is it?

I've done this with a pickguard, maybe if you've got something removable like a large backplate it would be easier.

It's an SG copy. Good shout on the pickguard. That seems alot easier. Plus i don't have to lug around a guitar for people to sign.

Use a good contrasting color paint marker.
Hobby and fabric stores usually have them, sometimes even called autograph markers/pens.

I used silver on a black pickguard, looked great.

Keep in mind a pickguard is designed for abuse and scratching, so if you're going to play it often, consider clear coating the PG after signage.

That way it's protected when one of your buddies becomes a serial killer, then you can sell it on eBay! :p:

Sounds good. Remember to clear coat over it later, though to protect signiatures.
