Songs which should NEVER be covered
 

list the songs that amateur bands should NEVER cover at gigs

these can be the songs that are just bad in general or are the classics that shouldnt be atempted.

Im going to kick it off by listing the 2 obvious ones:

• Guns n Roses - Sweet Child of Mine
• Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven

(If you happen to have covered any that appear in this list you should feel bad... unless it was a dam good cover)

Thought I'd make this list after headlining a gig tonight and the first support band doing incredibly bad covers of:

• all along the watch tower - Bob Dylan/Hendrix (Hendrix is better imo)
• Come Together - The Beatles
• Back in the USSR - The Beatles
• Whiskey in the Jar - Thin Lizzy

Leonard Cohen - "Hallelujah"

I don't think its about the song it's about whether it's been done before, I've seen plenty of average covers of either song, participated in a few myself but I would be interested to see a reggae version of either (or at least something new)

I don't think it's the song that's sacred it's tired overused ideas that annoy me personally.


Edit: **** that ^^^ he's right hallelujah is a no go.

Fact: there are at least 1459 covers of that song that are better than the original.

Free bird I hate playing that song. If the audience just walked out when we played it I wouldnt care.

noone should bother covering bad songs

Every cover of it has been worse >.< Everyone goes on about Jeff Buckleys too, and it sucks, the song doesn't sound right without Leonard Cohens big voice.

thats a very good point. I totally agree with the reggae cover ideas

but I still think certain songs are sacred. because some bands can just ruin a song for you.

i wouldn't say it's the worst one but yeah it's a p bad song

Any Beatles songs.

Other than that I really like to listen to covers whether they be good or bad.

i dont like covering ANY songs at a gig
but ive been know to drunkenly play all striway to heaven and freebird sometimes :haha:

The Final Countdown.

Of all the Nirvana songs you could cover, this would be the worst one to cover. They have way better songs and it just sounds really bad when you try to do a proper cover of this song.

Also, people who decide to cover Sublime and their first thought is "What I Got"
