Metal forum IRC
I was bouncing around the idea of inviting the UG metal forum to an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) channel that is already registered with freenode. I know we have used mumu player and sometimes facebook to chat (we had that ridiculous UG chat with meebo for a little while and it fell through). Facebook can be a hassle because of having to add a friend just to chat with them and at times people from your daily life will conflict with your UG virtual life and so on and so forth (for some people this isn't the case... but I am just putting that out there). Mumu player is a really awesome idea but only a few people can get on at a time and mumu is extremely glitchy. Facebook groups (as well as Google+ groups) are ok but... as I said before the interface is annoying.

I suggest an alternative way to chat so that you can keep your UG name and stay anonymous if you prefer and we can all get on the same channel at once without any drawbacks. The main reason I prefer IRC chat is because of the lightweight and simple design along with giving everyone a chance to get on there without some initial conditions.

The new server to connect to for VoidNet is

Here is our site:
If you are having trouble connecting or don't have a client installed etc.. just use the Web Client

Who's Who:
voidead = rg_metal
decrepit = kirkisking
kytokinesis = kytokinesis
Svibrager = Emenius Sleepus
Jon* = severed-metal
Motor = Metal_Head1
MHD = MHDrunk

Just to name a few.. I'll update this list accordingly

I'm up for this.

But I wouldn't be able to get on just using my mIRC? Sorry i'm not well versed on the whole irc thing I barely use it anyway.

rg_metal 08-27-2012 06:52 PM

actually... you can get on using just about anything really. Some people use IRC from their phones or whatever. Which is why I am suggesting it.

I think I found #metal on freenode? There's like three people on and no one says anything and its all like black metal ftw or whatever?

Sorry about my abrupt departure.

rg_metal 08-28-2012 10:01 AM

so far people have successfully joined the channel and had meaningful conversations... and it was really easy to join... so lets get everybody on there.

mIRC IS the easiest way. If anyone is interested you can download it here
Once you download it, every time you open it up it will say that you have so many days of a free trial. But even after the trial is over you can still use it. After your free "trial" is over, when you open the program it will prompt you to either "register" or "continue" and the continue button will be locked. Wait a few seconds and it will unlock. So it can be used indefinitely for free.

To find the server:
1. Open mIRC
2. An "mIRC options" window should pop up after dealing with registration prompt.
3. On the left hand corner, a drop-down menu should be displayed. The top option is "Connect." Open the options underneath, and click on "Servers"
4. Scroll down the list of servers. They should be in alphabetical order. Find the server "freenode." click on it. Random server should appear under it.
5. Double click "random server" under "freenode"
6.Type in a nickname and click "connect"
7. Once connected, a window should pop up labeled "mIRC favorites." In the very top bar that says: "enter a channel name and click join" type in #ugmetalforum
8. You should now be on the metal channel!

I can submit possibly more detailed instructions upon request. I kinda threw this together rather quickly.

^ good info man

Also there are so many IRC commands that can be useful for just about anything.

Kytokinesis 08-28-2012 01:03 PM

I think its safe to assume that the natives are...Not people. They constantly log on and off because I guess eventually they ping out and are automatically signed back in.

rg_metal 08-28-2012 05:56 PM

lol yeah I figured... unless they are the sort of people who leave their computer on all the time and have autorejoin setup.

Kytokinesis 08-29-2012 05:54 PM

Can't believe people aren't jumping at this >.>

rg_metal 08-29-2012 07:48 PM

pure laziness

eazy-c 08-29-2012 07:54 PM

The forum is more than enough exposure to you reprobates.

rg_metal 08-30-2012 02:49 AM

this forum could use some new ideas...

The Wildchild 08-30-2012 04:09 AM

No. New music that doesn't suck is what it needs

Such as attracting people away from the forum? :confused:

Another forum I used has an IRC channel, but it's become really cliquey and I don't know if I like it myself. Surely Sacofricosis is a thread for chatting in, and doesn't the facebook page have a multi chat function?
