Music GCSE
I'm doing my music GCSE.

I need to choose a song for my guitar to play and the compose one like it.

I was thinking of doing 'Parisienne Walkways' by Gary Moore, then composing something similar to it as it isn't that hard. However, I'm sure there is better songs. I get marks for technique, fluency (no mistakes) and difficulty. A few more of course, but not as significant.

Can somebody try and recommend me a mostly guitar related song that keeps singing to a minimum. However, is still fairly easy to compose a 'similar' song to it.

Maybe this? Mostly acoustic, a few lines of comfortably ranged singing, lots of blues and stuff.

Singing is not to a minimum, but 'Nothing Else Matters' could work well.

Some thing with a twelve bar structure could work well.

This sounds perfect! What links do you think I should make in the composition? Do you know what key it is in?

I got an A* in GCSE Music back in 2006; if I'm not mistaken it was a bit different to this (had to write a waltz, rather than a song similar to my performances, but the performance I did was a couple of Joe Satriani songs as I had good backing tracks for them too (Satch Boogie and The Extremist). Not sure what the standard is to get other grades, but if you can play songs of that level then you may as well shoot for an A* - I pretty much got by on my performances, and then at AS/A-levels I was screwed as they were more based around classical techniques

I got an A* in music this year [now doing AS music]. The biggest mistake you can make is choosing a really hard piece - choose something you are comfortable with and if you do make mistakes, you need to know how to cover them up.

I did 1776 by Iced Earth as my first performance [here's my GCSE performance w/ backing track]. I can't remember what I got for it, but when I performed it live, I was scored 27/30. Only dropped three marks due to the lack of difficulty.

Can someone suggest me a song, solo, riff, or whatever with a good amount of legato picking? I'm a pretty experienced at guitar, but not much at legato. Thanks.
