Fender Bassman Cab? Worth it?
Hey you guys, so I was on craigslist for my area and came across a 70's era Bassman cab. It's being sold for $200. Right now I have a little 15w combo amp, and am deffinitely gonna upgrade very soon. I am thinking I want to get a halfstack of some kind. I was thinking I could get this cab, and then match it up with a head a little down the road. Would this work? Is this a good deal for this cab? Or should I just wait for something else? Also, I know the Bassmans are legendary for their sound. Will this cab sound as amazing, or will that depend on the head I put on it?

Here's the ad :)

I would for sure.

Hell, I'd pay $200 for it even without speakers. I would jump on that if I were you.

i will warn you of two things:

1) speakers in those cabs tended to get blown out quite a bit. there is a possibility those speakers could be blown. try before you buy, or perhaps accept the fact you might need to recone the speakers or get new ones

2) if the speakers are original, the cab will be wired for 4 ohms. so whatever amp head you get for the future, make sure it can handle a 4 ohm cab. with the cab being 4 ohms, it also means you probably won't be able to run another cab with it (cuz most tube guitar amps don't have options for running less than 4 ohms)

it's a cool cab though, big ol' 2x12.

^ It says 4 x 12 in cl listing.

^oh, then that would be a super bassman 100 cab, that was the only one to come with a 4x12 cab

everything i said still stands though, except the size. it's a fairly standard 4x12 size.

I sold my 65' cab for $60 empty. They kinda dont go for a whole lot here.

But that one looks real nice, just make sure the screws that hold the back on are tight.

They holes in the wood may be worn out. Which aint too big a deal if the wood is ok and you have room for bigger screws.

I tried a 2x15 bassman cab some weeks ago with my RA. It kicked ass! Too bad the owner didn't accept to sell it to me.
