Ok, question...

On the Mesa boogie Dual Rectifier's, the new ones (3 channel, not 2 channel), the multi-watt feature, does that require you to pop in el-34's for the 6l6's or can you switch from the 100 watts down to 50 without modifying? I've seriously been looking into this amp and this is one of the only things still stumping me and making me unsure about it. Being able to pop down to 50 watts on a whim would greatly benefit me and my band and since I don't have one at my disposal I'd like to get knowledge from all of you :D

you can switch without modding

are you dead set on that amp?

Yeah the multi watt is a selectable wattage output. Just flip a switch. Not sure if you are asking anything else. Just download the owners manual.

I can't tell if you are asking if the switching wattage is from changing tubes? No need to switch tubes to switch wattage.

Why would you want to switch it to 50W anyway? People pull tubes to drop power on 100W amps so they can get power amp distortion at useable volumes. Are you trying to get power tube distortion out of a Recto????

Yeah all it does it out two of the tubes. It's not even the Simul-Class where it can do class A. Still A/B in either mode. (Simul-Class is found on the Mark series)

From Mesa:

MULTI-WATTTM POWER:
Each Channel contains our patented MULTI-WATT power switch that allows you to choose either 50 or 100 watts (50 or 150 watts on TRIPLE RECTIFIER) of power enabling you to match the power output and feel to each of the three foot switchable preamp sounds. The 50 WATT position (switch down) brings two of the four (outside pair far left and far right) tubes

on line for a clippable 50 watts of power. The 100 WATT setting (150 WATT on TRIPLE RECTIFIER) brings on line all the 6L6 power tubes for the full power and headroom. This setting is preferred for pristine clean sounds and tight-tracking high gain sounds.
