Interesting debate. Stewart was awesome as usual.

Why hasn't someone murdered Bill O'Reilly yet, that level of derptardation is well.. as a person, he's not someone people should take any form of advice from. Or take anything seriously if it comes out of his mouth.

Is this a versus thread?

Before I watch, was Stewart funny or all serious and preachy?

I think it's a bit of both.

Either way, O'Reilly is such a stereotypical grumpy old guy, just interrupts and shuts anyone down because he's older and thus thinks he knows more. The guy has the confrontational attitude of a child.

His first jibe was good 'I implore the mayor of bullshit mountain!'

Whatever you want to call it, defending Bill O'Reilly is like defending any other backhanded propaganda minister. The entirity of fox news is as confused as he is, and perhaps a bit more crazy.

Can someone explain to me what these democrats and republicans exactly represent? Because in Europe we usually have Socialists, Liberalists/Pogressive parties and conservatives.

It sounds like both parties in the USA are very conservative on some points and very liberal on other points. How does that work out for them?

Democrats are more liberal overall, but some Republicans are socially liberal and economically conservative which of course leads to kind of a discord in the party.

Officially: Republicans = Conservative americans. Almost universally Christian, right wing, pro-capitalist, the main party leaders are ex-businessmen or really really old members of the party.

Democrats = I guess the closest thing to socialists? Not quite 'people' oriented enough to be liberal. If republicans are far right (not extreme right, but far right), then Democrats would be between center right and center left. Basically take all the Republican policies and do the oppisite, which usually ends up being the more agreeable option, cuz the republicans are mostly crazy.

EDIT: For anybody still trying to decide why Stewart is any different than O'Reilly, Stewart is a comedian. His agenda is to be funny. If liberals do something stupid, he picks on them, but the simple fact of the matter is that republicans tend to say a lot more stupid shit, and thus he rips on them primarily.
O'Reilly is a political propagandist. He lies and intentionally misinterprets and edits things in such a way as to push his own conservative political agenda, and people believe him. People don't watch John Stewart and think "Dammit, he's right! Conservatives ARE the enemy!", they think "Hah, he's right, that was fucking stupid of that person."

I mean, I love Colbert too, but Stewart is way funnier imo.


Also, I may or may not get 95% os my political news from those two shows. :o
