Has anybody else thought of dubstep and electronic music in general a return to the baroque period of music?

I mean it has a very grounded bass line. The mood really never changes. Has long ornate passages. I mean all thats missing is a good fugue...

And everyone loves a good fuguing tune

Does dubstep use the principles of counterpoint? Does it take a main theme and elaborate upon it?

long ornate passages that consist of professionally synthesized sounds similar to that which people who don't really know electronica try to make with their mouths when imitating electronica, yea.

dubstep is a bad example but a lot of anti-dub and downtempo does do some pretty interesting melody lines

and owl challenger does a lot of passages with expansion on generic classical music

still not a good example but it's not the dumbest thing that's been said on MT even today

i like dubstep. and i love baroque music.

but there's a lot more (and i do mean a lot) to baroque music than ornate passages and a grounded bassline.

as hail said, kudos for making an observation, it's actually one of the more intelligent things i've heard on MT in a while. but as smiley said, i'm going to go with a resounding, emphatic 'no'.
