Need cab advice

Hello forum, my situation is that I'll be getting an Orange MT20 for Christmas, and I don't know what cab I should get. Obviously my first though was the accompanying PPC 108, but since there are other options, I'd like to consider them. For example, there's the Vox 1x10 that goes with the Night Train. I play a lot of metal (almost exclusively), especially Dethklok and In Flames. For this cab, I'd like to stay at around $100. Also, this setup will mainly be for practicing and recording. Thanks in advance :llama:

That budget will be very difficult to work with.

Best advice I can give is to get whatever 1x12 you can. Peruse your Craigslist (or tell us whereabouts you live and we can look around for you).

Also if you by chance haven't gotten the amp yet, I think there would be far better options for what you want to play than the MT.

I wouldn't want anyone to go through that kind of trouble, this doesn't have to sound professional. Really, I'm just dipping my feet into the "tube amp" thing, even though the mt20 is a hybrid. But I have seen plenty of 4x12s, including Roland, Ibanez, Kustom, Randall. I've even found a Blackstar 1x10 in my budget. If you really want to look at craigslist though, I'm in the Nashville, TN area :b

Plenty of cheap cabinets if you can buy online.

Yeah, I saw those. Any that you would recommend? :waldo:

Don't worry about it. That's what we (or I anyway) am here for. :)

Like I mentioned before, that particular Orange is really not suited at all to what you want to play.

Take a look at the Peavey Vypyr Tube 60 - it's pretty much the cheapest amp I know of that actually sounds *good* for modern metal. Almost all low wattage tube amps are not going to be good for that kind of stuff. Very few exceptions.

I don't see any on your CL or in your local GC, but they have used ones on the site you can order, for example: http://www.guitarcenter.com/In-Stor...236-i1997762.gc

If you can stretch your budget more, also take a look at the 6505+ 112. I prefer the Vypyr, but if you're looking into owning a straight up all tube amp, that would be the best cheapest option.

Honestly, they're all going to be cheap. I don't expect any of them to be mind-blowing. If you were to buy one, the best advice I can give you is get any affordable 1x12 so you can put a decent speaker in it later.

If you're not going to buy one, I'd wait and save for a better amp. The Micro Terror isn't bad at all, but from what I've heard, it doesn't really shine till it is run through a good speaker cabinet. Something I can guarantee is going to cost much more than the MT.

+1 on the Peavey Vypyr Tube 60. Probably the most affordable amp that sounds good and won't detonate your wallet.

Good news, I'm stretching my wallet and getting an HT-1R. Would anyone recommend the "default" cab?
