What Scale to use for solo?
A friend and i are doing the song Fast Car by Tracy Chapman for a music class at school. I am planning on adding a solo into it and was wondering what scale would best work with it? I believe the song is in Amaj.
Thanks |
A major.

How much time have you got? If you need to blag it then, for you, A major pentatonic.... shape 5.
That's F♯ minor pentatonic shape 1 to all you people that can't be assed with theory. ****ing hell. |
I'm always amused by the guitar line in the song that is just playing an open A on the G string (capo'd 2nd), over and over again. I always imagine the session guy (paid hourly) to say "nah guys, add this super cool thing) then proceeds to play an open string for the entirety of the song.
Otherwise TS, cmon, you're in a music class. Commit yourself and learn what a key is, and how to identify what key a song is in. |
It's a highschool guitar class, the teacher doesn't know what he's doing so I thought by trying to add a solo that would be commiting myself?

A major, 3 sharps, A B C# D E F# G#
Learn it all over the neck. |

By understanding music you would be committing yourself. It's not very hard to identify the key of this song, and you could have attempted to do so yourself rather than asking the internet. However you did and still don't know how to find the key of a song. |
