First time to buy an amp head!
 

Hi guys

Ok i'm gonna keep it as simple as possible.

I play Hardcore/Crust Punk and i need an amp head for gigs and home practice. A friend's gonna give me his cabinet which is a 75W one if i remember correctly. I've got 500 Euros to spend (roughly US $650 or 450 GBP). I want an amp head that will produce a very 'dirty', rough sound, something between thrash and death metal sounds; something like Driller Killer, Disfear, Skitsystem or Wolfbrigade. I own a Jackson JS35RR and the Scott Ian Black 13 pedal and i've got a Behringer Vampire LX-210. I live in Cyprus (near Greece & Turkey) but i wouldn't mind ordering from the internet. Preferably new but if i find anything used that's in good condition then i'll consider it. thanks !

isn't the 5150 a bit expensive for my budget? Besides, i didn't like the sound it produced :/

Definitely not used it isn't, but if you don't like it, then there's no point. Maybe a JSX

A used Blackstar series one 50 watt head. Great for that type of music. I'd look towards a, Ibanez TS-9 & EMG pickup for future spends.

Marshall MG?

Look for a used Peavey JSX. I'm not sure about the price in your area, but they go for between $300-$500 in my area (CAD)

Works well or basically any genre you can think of requiring high gain, except maybe the chugga chugga stuff.

Add a boost and you'll be al set to go.

I recently picked up a Laney GH50L. Sounds like a good match for you, has a great drive channel and its fairly cheap.

What brands of amps are avalable to you in Cypress?

Can you order from Thomann?

Jet City is worth a look the JCA50h

Bugeras have a great sound, but can sometimes be very unrliable. I have the 333 head and it sounds great and I have been very lucky that I have had very few minor issues with it.

You might beable to find a Marshall JCM2000 TSL60

Laney GH50l is also a good place to look. Maybe even a laney AOR50 if you can find one used.

Yeah i can order from Thomann. But i'd rather not buy something without testing it first but i guess i don't have a choice here...I'll have a look at these and will let you guys know...It's such a pain in the a$$ hehehehe but it's worth it...got a big gig coming up in January and i need to buy the amp head by then !

An old Peavey VTM would work well for sludgey crust punk, not sure how it'd fare for hardcore. They go for ~$300 here (New England).

is peavey prices pretty high in Cypress?

The older Peavey Ultra or Ultra+ heads are worth looking for.

What amps are in your local area used?

what about the ValveKing 100 Head? oh and btw it's CyprUs not Cypress :p

The VK is a diecent amp. There are a ton of mods for the VK100 head to make it a little beast. What is the price of the VK?
