Buying Auralex Acoustic Treatment?

I hear a lot of opposing ideas about acoustic treatment. I want to just get some acoustic treatment and be done with it. I hear people saying fiberglass is what you need, and others saying that fiberglass will harm your health, and others saying that Auralex doesn't do anything, while still others say Auralex is the best.

I kind of want to keep it simple and take the safe way out, but I want to hear what you guys think.

I already have a lot of Auralex Studiofoam which I had bought for $100 a while ago, and I think it made a nice difference (and it looks very nice). Now I keep hearing that I need to handle bass frequencies, and so I've been looking at these LENRD Bass Traps.

They seem pretty expensive, but if they work and they help my recordings then it's worth it.

The Auralex made a difference because it deflected reflections. It does very little for absorbing frequencies.

Assuming you have access to the tools (or don't mind paying Home Depot/Lowes/whoever to cut your wood), for $264, you could build professional bass traps and broadband absorbers, and receive much better results.

Do you have any guide to doing this?

On a personal note, if you're looking to even out your mixing environment the auralex is pretty good. I had to buyquite a few bass traps for my corners (16 total I think) but the difference is like night and day

Thanks z4twenny, how do you have those bass traps set up in your studio?

Here are some photos with captions that show how I built mine. The price quoted above is about right from my experience too.

Like that

That looks great Axemanchris.

I looked around again and now I am leaning towards RealTraps, thinking of getting 2 Mini-Traps. They are really expensive, $440. From what you guys have heard, are RealTraps the best way to go for someone who doesn't really want to DIY?
