Fender Frontman 25r
anyone have any scathing reviews of this amp? I was looking to get it for Christmas. I've been playing guitar for less than a year and I'm just using it to play at home. Really need to upgrade my squirt amp with just volume, treble, and bass knobs
|
not much of an upgrade. take a look at the mustangs, you can start getting your feet wet in effects.
|
was also looking at the DigiTech RP255 to go along with it
|
I had a fender frontman 15R as my first amp and it was pretty bad.
|
Vyper or Mustang. Both have plenty of built in effects so the RP may not be needed. Though will be fun to have.
For $250 though, I bet you could find a killer used amp. If youre interested |
could you be a little more specific? I'm playing a Fender SP-10 right now
|
I had a Frontman. They break easy. They dont sound very good. A Peavey Vyper or Fender Mustang would do you better. I feel personally.
I bet if you searched like a hawk you could get a vyper tube 60 which are loved around these parts |
should have mentioned the budget is only around $100 US

he means that the vypyr and the mustang have effects built into the amp, so the digitech you are looking at wouldn't be necessary. the effects the amp have built into them are pretty much the same thing as what the RP255 has. so a mustange is pretty much the same thing as a frontman with a RP255. if you are planning on getting a RP255 then those effects may be a bit better than the built in amp effects, but they are similar concepts: amp modelers, pedals, etc. |
Though the mustangs are actually pretty damn good.
Certainly better than many of their peers. |
even if I just get the Fender Mustang I? Still better than Frontman + RP255?
|
If you can afford to spend up to $300 buy a 2nd hand Mustang II and have some cash left over.

I don't know how you think you can afford any sort of upgrade. Keep saving and don't waste your money. |
How can you get the FM and RP with $100 bucks? Just curious. Thats where I came up with $250..
Get the Stang or Vyper. Skip the FM |

2 Christmas gifts coming from two different people |
Oh, well if its a gift, then play it into the ground. Why not. The FM will last a year, maybe two. The RP will be fun to mess around with. My friend had the larger version, and It was a blast to use. Not the best quality sound, but definitely some fun times to be had.

get two gift cards, pool it and buy an amp with fx. yes that'll be better than the fender 25 and an fx pedal. i have a fender 25. |
The Fender frontman 25 r is a really good amp. I use it in performances with my jazz band all the time. Very simple, and able to produce a really nice tone. If you only have 100 dollars I say pull the trigger.

My Fender 25 is the amp I let my friends borrow when they want to learn guitar. I usually get it back within a month because they hate it and they buy a Vox VT30. |
And I know you probably wanna play with sounds. So the RP is an awesome choice. I use those two together. Download the X-Edit program that comes with it. It's a blast.
|
I have the 25R and to be honest, It's pretty horrible.
The built in distortion is absolutely crap. The cleans are OK but it sounds trebly since it has a 10" speaker. |
