... Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah or Happy Holidays when talking to people you know or just people you see around anywhere really?


Like a lot of stores around here have all their employees say "happy holidays" because saying the other two is offensive or some shit. idk

So what do you say?

Always one or the other? Or does it depend on the situation?

Like if I go into a store I'll say it to the cashier or whoever when I'm leaving.

I usually go with Merry Christmas since that's what I'm used to. But a friend was recently telling me about people getting in trouble at the store he works at for not saying "happy holidays."

I just repeat what ever one they say to me

I just say "goodbye, have a good'un". If someone says "Happy ____" to me I just say "You too". Passive conversationalist win

If I know them, I'll say "merry christmas," if not, "happy holidays."

I'll say whatever they say to me back. I don't say any of them first, unless it's a friend or family that I know well enough to not offend them

I just say Merry Christmas. I can't really say I know anyone that says Happy Holidays besides people who are working.
