I mean i find bands like Bathory, Inquisition amazing but i just can get the other bands like Emperor, Burzum etc and don't get me wrong i respect the genre and the musicians but i don't why i just cant get myself to enjoy it and same goes with death metal when i try to listen to bands like Morbid angel, deicide, bolt thrower and death i just am not able to appreciate and enjoy it as i enjoy the bands like destruction, sodom, bathory and inquisition etc...can anyone help ?

Go through the rec thread till you find something you like.

Listen to Dimmu Borgir, Immortal, Amon Amarth, Dethklok, Cradle of Filth, etc. You will eventually get into extreme metal.

The idea is to get him to like extreme metal, not turn him off from it. |

hahahahaahaha Same list without CoF. |
you don't like it cause you're not used to listening to it. you'll eventually grow to enjoy it. i didn't really like death metal when i first started listening to it and now death metal & grindcore are my favorite genres. definitely check out the rec thread.

Just keep digging around until you get a thread to pull, and make sure not to disregard albums on the first listen. I'd recommend Death - Human, Dismember - Like an Everflowing Stream, Carcass - Heartwork, Brutality - Screams of Anguish as a few easily digestible DM albums

Lol. Rec thread is a good place to ask this. Dismember - Like An Ever Flowing Stream for Death Metal, Ancient - Svartlheim for Black Metal. That's all I have to say. |
Pretty much what ctfod said.
You might get there through death/thrash maybe? Like I did. Or maybe it was Death for me. Don't remember, but don't worry, it'll "make sense" someday. And if it won't, no worries. I was never big on black metal, and by now I honestly think I never will be. In the mean time here's some good ol death/thrash (or just aggressive thrash) albums that I cherish very much looking back at my thrash roots: Sadus - Illusions/Swallowed in Black Dark Angel - Darkness Descends Sepultura - Schizophrenia Devastation - Idolatry Demolition Hammer - Epidemic of Violence Morbid Saint - Spectrum of Death Ripping Corpse - Dreaming With The Death |

You best not be implying that Immortal are bad. |
lol @ extreme metal
It's not like you need to start doing crunches to prepare yourself for heavier music. If it's not what you're in to at the moment then don't worry about it. Someday down the line you'll get curious and begin to crave it if it's something you're actually interested in. Some conceited, conscious effort to force yourself to like it would kind of defeat the purpose. |

I got into it through a friend who used to always play old Sepultura (started with Arise), Dismember, Carcass and a heap of other random stuff. At the time I was listening to the faster Iced Earth songs and heavier Testament material and then it just wasn't enough all of a sudden. The riffs sounded too simple all of a sudden and it just wasn't the same anymore, the next logical step was Deicide, Morbid Angel, Immolation ect. Only a hand full of black metal bands interest me tbh.
It's not something you just wake up and love all of a sudden. Being a guitarist, I started looking for more interesting ideas and (arguably) more interesting song writing. Extreme metal in my mind contains some of the best song writing of all time, regardless of genre. It's not like you have to like it though, there's no law against sticking to the simple stuff. But please TS, don't be one of those people who wants to tell people into "extreme" music how amazing Slayer & Pantera are. |

Don't care how obvious it is to be posting this in a Metal subforum, but to hell with that! This piece is amazing. |
Just listen to that. |
I got into Death Metal through In Flames.
I mean... I'm not the tr00est person known to man, but I enjoy a bit of Kvlt now and then. |

oh ya actually i do listen to immortal a lot and find them awesome! |
I believe the first Death Metal song I enjoyed was Oscillation Point by Scar Symmetry. I didn't really get into harsh vocals until I started listening to Opeth. They might be a good start for you as some of their albums are more/less extreme than others. Listen to Damnation. If you like that, give Blackwater Park or Watershed a listen.
