30 Seconds To Mars Capricorn effect
 

Hey can anyone figure out what effect is being used at the beginning of Capricorn by 30 Seconds to Mars. It sounds like a UFO or something taking off. It is such an insane sound. A friend and I have the theory that it is a Boss DD-20 but I tried it and can't figure it out. Can anyone help me? I most likely will never use it I'm just dying to figure out how exactly to do it.

Do they not have a synth player? It looks/sounds like it from that video, so that's probably where the sound is coming from.

Could probably achieve something similar sound to the synths when the band kicks in using some sort of delay and flanger

yeah I know they did use quite a bit of synths on this album so it could be that. Just when I saw a live version no one was playing the synths and the guitarist looked like he was using some pedal, but they mightve also been using a playback sort of thing here I'll link the live one..

Best bet would be a synth.
