Airplane Guitar TRAVEL!!!??
Hey Everybody...
So what is your advice on Traveling with your guitar via Airplane? I usually try to Gate Check my guitar, Instead of putting it in the belly.. I have a standard Gibson SG Case Ive heard some horror stories with this case... but in my past experiences, had no problems when I traveled long distances via Air.... ![]() |
I haven't had to yet, but if I had to I would probably see if I could buy an extra seat and put it there. Although now thinking about it, it would probably be extremely expensive
|
Well, if you're going to fly with your instrument... whatever you do, don't fly United.
'cause as we all know, United Breaks Guitars :D |
Gate checked luggage still goes into the belly of the plane... Anyway, no matter what you do, make sure your case is flat. My bro is a baggage handler, and they hate rounded cases, and they treat them like shit, since they can't be stacked effectively.

Yah I heard all the crazy horror stories... and freaks me out a lot... but Ive toured all over with this case without problems...
And gate checking is really the best thing to do especially for a big transfer airport like Atlanta... haha |
commercial air with a guitar...one word...insurance...lots of it...
|
I pad my cases with socks....but apart from that get insurance.

thanks guys... Yah last euro tour I used the same case but checked it in normally.... nothing bad!
I stuffed it with shirts around and even tuned the strings so theyre floppy... creating 0 tension... Good idea? :) |
^^^ Yeah definitely loosen the strings. Always ask if you can check the guitar in as hand luggage too, sometimesyou get lucky.
