Tube preamp+solid state
 

I have a Fender Mustang V halfstack that I have been using live for about 3 years. I want tube distortion but I'm too poor right now to afford a new head. I was thinking about buying a tube driven distortion pedal or something. Any ideas?

What type of distortion are you after? Please be more specific.

Have you tried an overdrive yet with your set-up?

A classic one would be a TS9. You can find cheaper clones.

Reall, you should save your $200 and put a little more twards it and you can afford something like a Peavey Ultra head.

I just looked they have a 60 watt Peavey Ultra head for $249 on GC used site This is the pre Peavey XXX/JSX/3120 amp good cleans and it can get pretty heavy

I'm looking for like a thrash/death kinda sound. I have thought about running a preamp through it I just want to get as much info as possible before i purchase something. I might save my money and get a used tube head but I'm damned impatient.

Rob has a very good point. For 250 you can get a cheap peavey or a crate blue voodoo.

If a pedal is a must here is something to consider. You must have an fx return in your amp. Does it have an fx loop?

Blue Voodoo is also a good cheap choice

It does have an fx loop. I'm just kinda in a rush. I may get a tube head during tax season but I want something cheaper for right now.

AMT has a whole series that mimicks famous amps. Dual rec, 5150, etc.

The AMT Legend series pedals sound pretty damn good look em up on youtube.
