recording my band
Hi Im in a low budget garage band, im interested in buying an 8 track studio for recording us but the problem is that we're all lo-tech cavemen, im looking for something with at least 4 mic/intstrument inputs that's simple and I mean simple like d o g spells dog simple. any recommendations?

Start here:

Honestly, there's nothing that's simple in the recording world IMO.

last thing I used was a Tascam 4 track cassette recorder, that was pretty simple. ty for the link.

Things like the DP004 that's listed in the multitracker part of that thread are really no more difficult to use than the old portastudio you used to have.

If you go with the multitracker option, I'd recommend at least 16 tracks if you're going to be recording a whole band.

You're not going to get anything cheap that can handle the while band at once. You're probably better with a nice stereo pair of room mics, a handheld recorder....or just go to a studio.

The Zoom R16 is the only thing I can honestly recommend. 8 mics simultaneously and works as a simple standalone recorder or with a computer for more serious mixing.

^ although the R16 still needs hooking up to a PC so you can use software to create the final mix. If I'm reading OP correctly, he wants to avoid this as he isn't a particularly technical person.

The Tascam 2488 (or the newer DP-24/32) would handle it as well, and they're both standalone units. One of the Boss ones mentioned in the sticky would probably also work, but as I said in that thread, I've never used one due to the price.
