Black pickup-less guitar?
 

So today I saw this duo that had one nylon string and one steel, but the bodies were exactly the same shape and color: like a matte black acoustic with no sound hole. Except they were both thin like electric guitars, and the strangest part was that they had no pickups. It wasn't like their tone was glorious, so why make a pickup less guitar?

Did they have Piezo bridge pickups? Lightwave bridges? If they were acoustic guitars without soundholes, that doesn't make a lot of sense. If they were solidbody guitars, then they must have had some type of pickup somewhere. Otherwise, you're right. Such a guitar would be pointless.

They probably had a peizo pickup. A lot of Godin guitars look kind of like what you're describing, although I don't think I've ever seen a black one.

I would have thought piezo, but the bridge was like a steel string acoustic bridge. Is it possible on a bridge like that? I don't know what a light wave bridge is, but the one guitar definitely had nylon strings and they both had acoustic bridges.

I was thinking more along the lines of Ovation acoustics where the soundhole is next to the neck.

Yes, you can (and companies do) make a Piezo bridge that looks for all the world just like a standard acoustic guitar bridge.

This is a Lightwave bridge:



It uses fluctuations caused by the vibrating strings in a beam of light to act as a pickup.

Some of the Veilete electric guitars have no visible pickups.

Dave Matthews had a pair of Gibson Chet Atkins SST Solid Body Acoustic guitars- one black, one blonde- a model that features "bridge mounted transducers."

This is it, if it comes in black. If not, then something very very similar.
