Peavey 6505...did i get an ok price?
Just today i ordered an original 6505 for $720 through GC (that's including the one year coverage for $60), and I have a lead on a rectifier 4x12 for 450, making the whole setup for almost $1200. i've been wanting this rig for almost a year. did i get ripped off or did i do ok?
also a secondary question: i've heard about ohms with the head and cab, are you supposed to run them both at the same ohms? sorry for being a noob, this is my first tube halfstack |
You got a good deal on the cab, but I think you paid a littl much for the amp, but not too much.
Wait did the $720 include the waranty or not if it did that is not a bad deal. |

yeah the 720 includes the coverage, without it it would have been around 650 |

Yeah I was gonna say they go for $550-$650 normally, so thats a pretty good deal. Now get the cab and you'll have a nice rig. |
i thought they actually had it in the store so i was planning on coming home with it lol
i cant wait to make my first NAD thread |
I paid $650 for my 6505+ head used.
450 for that cab seems to be about average from what I've seen for those cabs on my craigslist. |
I paid 588.50 for mine off the used site, after the manager adjusted the price to make up for the shipping.

Yeah the prices seem to have gone up lately here, you used to be able to get them for 500 all day. Ah well. Looking forward to a NAD!

Also I failed to answer your question. Yes you run the head and cab at the same impedance (ohms). If the cab is 8 ohms (common) then just put the switch on the back of the head to 8 ohms and rock out.
Another thing to consider is the cab selection. I was originally looking for a 412 and got a 212 instead. Something to consider, a 212 will be a little less "boomy". I would also suggest getting a 10 band eq and an overdrive to go with it. The EQ really helps with these amps. |

+1 on the EQ, it really helps open them up. |
Here on the east coast the 6505+ usually get advertised for 800-9--$ used, and the Mesa cabs for like 500-600$. I paid 850$ and 500$ for my head and cab, which is pretty average for these parts. The US might be completely different though, but I still see the heads going for about that used, as they are around 1300$ new still.

thats a good deal considering I paid 1200 for a 6534+ new when they came out a couple years back
