Strengthening Fingers

I've found that as I play standing up my wrist gets very sore from playing and I noticed this is because in order to play, I'm using my thumb to apply pressure. Would playing sitting down without using my thumb on the neck be a way to strengthen my fingers and move past this issue?

What kind of position is the guitar in relative to your body when you stand?

Your fingers don't need to be strong to fret down notes. What you need to do is find how to hold the guitar properly (tons of videos on the internet) and how to relax (once again, even though this one is obvious, there are tons of vids). Also, don't ever apply pressure with your thumb, it's there to hold the neck, and nothing else.

If your wrist hurts you may be curling it over too much while trying to fret notes down.

Also might want to give this a look. http://www.pbguitarstudio.com/pdf_f...ique%20Page.pdf

No, you need your thumb there. More likely you're using far too much pressure and your posture is poor.

Check this video out first -

This one is very old but it will help you massively reduce the amount of pressure you're using.

Best of luck! :)
