Light distortion pedal?
Hey guys, I need your help. I got a BOSS Metalcore which is cool for everything metal, which I play the most. I joined a church band (lol), and sometimes we use distortion, but this thing is too powerful for that, and if you just turn down the gain you get a thin crappy sound, and even then it sounds too agressive.
SO, good pedals for this kind of job? Was thinking in a BOSS Blues Driver or a Wylde Overdrive. Thanks in advance :peace: |

maybe too low of gain but i love my zendrive. if you want more, you want a timmy.

Wampler Ecstasy Drive? Think it is now called Euphoria.

(yes i am that jackass here), but you would probably be best off with an amp upgrade at some point in time. i would save for a new amp and try to get by without the OD.
what channel are you planning to run the pedal through? |
I agree with the amp upgrade, but if you think your amp is decent enough I've been loving this yellow guy lately.

I totally agree with you. But I have to point out, I love how all of us in GG&A pressure everyone into a new amp. :D Next thread we'll see will be asking for a good quality lead and we'll recommend them a Mark V. :p: Btw, what amp are you running? |

It is the right thing to do. Go to Jemsite, you'll see people running J Custom Ibanez into Marshall MGs. Absolutely crushing! Also TS, what amp? |
been very happy with my signa drive. now using it moreso as a boost and its still great with a tube amp for that.
for like 135 its really hard to beat. |

+1 i have liked their demos. may pick up a used price at some point if i am looking for another OD. |
I owned a Wylde OD and I have only good things to say about it. It does the tube-y low gain blues crunch sound wonderfully and then if you crank the gain you can coax some decently heavy Marshall-esque tones out of it. Nothing too over the top like you get from your Metalcore but keep in mind that on top of your amps overdrive, this pedal can scream. I'd say its comparable to a Boss SD-1 but much more transparent. It doesn't color your amp at all like the Boss.
And if price is not an issue, you could always go with what I consider the holy grail of OD's. The BB Preamp. :D |
I really liked the Xotic RC Booster.
Lovepedal OD11 is a very nice and budget friendly one as well. But with that Marshall MG you're better off getting a new amp. |
I am not sure if the amp was ever mentioned???
I'd suggest one of the multi-level overdrives so you can dial in more than one channel and switch between them. Somethink like a Sansamp TRI-AC, Tech21 Double Drive 3X, Marshall Jackhammer, Marshall Guv'nor, H&K Tubeman, Blackstar HT-Dual. If it is a tube amp you can probably just get away with a mild overdrive, something along the lines of a Blues Driver or a TS clone. I like the Voodoolab Sparkle Drive in that category. |
His profile says MG.

![]() THREAD HIJACK! NEW AMP TIME!!! |
Either the Boss Blues Driver or the Zakk Wylde overdrive will suffice, but a new amp would be optimal. I've heard a guy use an MG for church(ish) stuff. He was using a metalzone for distortion and it sounded epic (not). Any overdrive pedal suggested up to this point will be better than the metalcore pedal, but ultimately be about the same. I was like you. I thought my solid state amp was awesome sauce...then I heard it through in-ear monitors....disgusting...

My amp is a Marshall MG 30 DFX (yeah, pretty lame), but I usually connect the guitar directly to the mixer (Sounds ok for the job). Trust me, connecting the amp using the headphone output is even worse... So that's why the metalcore sounds so dull. Also, I sure want a new amp, but I'm poor and can't get a job :( |

Just get a Line6 POD or a Vox Tonelab or something....for less than the cost of a good OD pedal you could dial up pretty much any tone you want. |
