What is this technique?!

Hey guys,

So my mate showed me this the other day. At just after 3:50 this guy goes into a pick slide and ends it with some weird harmonic kinda sound.

What is this technique/how is it done?! I'm really wanting to learn it.

Pick slide just after 3:50

Cheers!

I'm not totally sure if this is what he did on the song but sometimes on an electric guitar with gain raised on the amp, you can get harmonics on frets that normally don't produce good harmonics. I know that when I crank up the distortion I can get a cool sounding harmonic on the 4th fret of the E string. Just to clarify, I'm not talking about pinch harmonics, I'm talking about the regular harmonics you get on the 5th, 7th and 12th frets.

It might be that but it could be something else like when you pick a note and quickly brush the palm of your picking hand on the string, I don't know what it's called but it creates an interesting sound as well.

Hmm, messing around with my guitar last night, it could be a tapped harmonic. If he gets the 5th fret on the A string and tapped the 24 fret.... I dunno. I really wanna know how he does it.

This is an example of what tapped harmonics sound like, go to about 42 seconds in (I know the music sounds like stuff you hear in an elevator but this guy was truly one of the most talented guitarist ever.) That being said, I don't think it's a tapped harmonic, the simplest way to find out for sure is to message the guy in the video and ask him personally what he does.

I don't think he's active very often. I tried messaging him.

edit*

I just realized what your question was. Sounds like a touch harmonic at the 5th fret.
