Heavy E Minor Shreddage (C4C)

So over on the RC forum they have a shred off for fun sometimes over a random backing track. Dug the backing track this month, so i jammed over it, this is what i made. Id love to hear what u guys think about my playing, technique, and tone (I spent a good amount of time on getting the lead tone for this).

As always, Ill C4C

Thanks,

Jake P

Hey there JP. Pretty nice shredding you got going on here. Your tone is pretty ****ing sweet as well! Definitely digging it. Only a couple not so positive things to say about this.

Not sure what was going on with the leads behind what you were playing. I just can't figure out if they were supposed to be there or what, but I feel like they take away from what you're doing.

You've definitely got some awesomely crazy licks going on in here, I just feel like the phrasing was a little random, and I feel that they could be put together a little more cohesively, if you know what I mean.

Overall, it was pretty kick ass, I'd say just work on the phrasing a bit, and it'll be excellent! Keep up the good work!

I enjoyed that! Sounds great, only comment on technique is that you pinky is always miles from the fretboard, seems to work ok for you though!

Thanks for the very detailed crit, I really appreciate it! After the main solo, i decided to throw a few overdubs under the improv. I agree that they might not have been the best idea haha and i agree about the phrasing too. I appreciate you took the time to crit it so well thanks man! Ill C4C now

Thanks man! And ive noticed that lately, do you have any advice on how to fix that? Ik its not correct, but im not sure how to go about fixing it. If i play like a 4 note per string lick that uses my pinky, i keep it low, but the second i dont need it, away it goes! haha Im not sure how to fix it. BUT Im def. going to work on it, thanks for the crit!

I thought that might be what you did. Definitely not a bad idea at all. I'd just take a little time and work out a couple melodic ideas to throw in there, and maybe even go as far as harmonizing them. That would definitely help pull your licks together nicely! I'd love to hear this reworked a little bit, but considering that was improv, that's not bad at all!

Thanks man! Next time i record something like this, ill try and come up with a few melody lines first, and then build off that. Thats a great idea! That way it would all flow, and have a central idea, and yet still have room for all the fun shredding haha. Thanks for all the advice, I really appreciate it!

Hell yeah! I can't wait to hear it!
