Fender Stratocaster hum

hey guys, ive got a Fender Stratocaster with my volume and both tones on 10 and my pickup selector all the way down. My guitar goes straight into my MBOX2 PRO. When I arm the track for recording, there is a persistent hum. The volume of the hum increases and decreases varying on the position of the guitar. ive gotta take care of this asap as im already a few days behind on recording. anyone know what this is caused from and how i can fix it? thanks!

Single coils hum, that's what they do. Humbuckers don't hum, hence the name.

Is it different from the hum you hear through the amp?

In case I'm telling you something obvious that you already know and it's not that, record the issue, upload it to sound cloud or whatever and post the link here. We'll have a listen. :)

i see. the hum is exactly the same through my amp too... i think this is how a strat is supposed to sound like.

Yes it is. Ignore it, or buy noiseless pickups. You can't hear it when you're playing and you should be able to cut out the hum from the beginning of the recording with the easiest of editing.

For me, that hum just represents awesomeness. :)

I hear that if you select just two pickups on an SSS config, you kill the hum. I can't confirm this since I don't have an SSS but an HH.

Positions 2 and 4 on your Stratocasters (the ones 'between' the pickups) should be silent. You can flip down or up from one of those positions for recording for a free fix to get rid of the hum. That's what I do.
