Dating age differences

What would you say is the cutoff for acceptable age differences in relationships?
Is any age difference acceptable?
What about when one person is a minor. like one is 17 the other is 19?
What if its a Heffner ordeal where its 23-80?

opinions please
thanks

The general rule is 0.5a+7 if 'a' is your own age

Redsectoreh 02-12-2013 12:40 AM

Half yer age plus seven.

lolmnt 02-12-2013 12:41 AM

I would go as young as twenty and as old as sixty-five.

angusfan16 02-12-2013 12:42 AM

Eh 2 year difference for me. Now older im game for whatever. Gimme yo grandmas. :liplick:

Once you reach a certain age, it really doesn't matter as long as it's reasonable. For example, my aunt and uncle are ten years apart and nobody questions it. Would it be disgusting if he was 20 and she was 10? Yes, obviously, but the fact that he's 50 and she's 40 isn't really a big deal.

When you're under 25-30, I'd say the good ol' two-year rule is a good one to follow.

For me, it would almost always depend on the difference in years between the two individuals. If 17 and 19, I think that's okay, assuming that they're both relatively mature. One of my friends was 13 and ended up in an 18 month relationship with a 18 year old. She's mature, and as far as I'm aware has always been. Although I think it's ****ing weird on the guys part, I tend to think that if there's a genuine attraction/caring, then it's okay. :)

^ 13 and 18 is pretty damn creepy if you ask me.

One of my friends is 20, only a few weeks younger than me, and her boyfriend is 28.
Would that be weird? I sure as hell think so.

I tend to use the 0.5x + 7 rule as a guideline because there is a cut off for that too.

Hey guys, has anybody mentioned the half your age plus seven thing yet?

Adam808 02-12-2013 12:44 AM

I would date maximum three years up and two years down.

Dylan received twelve to twenty-four years on sixteen state charges, including twelve counts of felonious sexual assault, plus two federal counts of crossing state lines to have sex with a minor-the Mann Act, passed in 1915, at the height of the white-slavery panic. After the reading of each count and its penalty, the judge asked the defendant to affirm that he understood.

He did understand-literally, at any rate. But the statement Dylan’s lawyer read for him spoke more of the tragedy of emotional ill health and immaturity than of criminal malice, more of misbegotten love than criminal misconduct. “I accept full responsibility," the statement began, insisting it was not meant “to excuse or minimize” Dylan’s crimes. But as he told of a childhood and youth plagued by unbearable shyness and loneliness, redeemed by a girl who “made me feel happier than I had ever felt [and] who brought joy into my life,” it did not appear that he understood or accepted the moral lesson his punishment was meant to teach. Indeed (a strategic misstep, taken against advice of counsel), Dylan seemed to be confessing that he’d do it all again. As the obstacles to their being together mounted, Dylan said, so did his obsession: “I loved her beyond reason and fled with the one I loved.”

i don't have any particular standards

Basically what you do is divide your age by two and then add seven and that's the age you can socially acceptably date!

It's a super obscure rule and not very many people know it, so I wanted to make sure that people knew about it.

fudger 02-12-2013 12:51 AM

I am 23 and my fiancee is 28. Age never really bothered me, grantered ive never been with a younger girl. Once you get past the drinking age (21over in america) it doesnt really go into play.

I'm 19. 2.5a+7 would be roughly 17. It's possible I would consider 16, but it would have to be an extreme exception. As for above, if you solve the formula the opposite way, you would get 24. This direction is more of a gray area for me. My sister's 27, so I feel like I can relate well to people her age, I just don't know if any 27 year olds would have any interest in a 19 year old.

zackk 02-12-2013 12:58 AM

over 18 for sure. Pedophilia is bad. Also, not more than a couple of years older than me. I'm 21 and I would prefer not to date someone significantly older than me.

So long as its not me, it's none of my business.

As long as they're not doing any funny stuff, or don't tell anyone about it, it's okay, I guess.

Again, none of my business.
