Emg 60/81, bridge or neck?

I just got an ltd ec 1000, it comes with emg 60/81 pickups. I play post hardcore/ metal core, so which sounds best in the neck and which sounds best in the bridge? Honest opinions please!

You were worried about dishonest opinions?

Anyway, most people prefer the stock setup with the 81 bridge and 60 neck.

81 will have a thinner but a heavy mid punch to it for the bridge. The most fav of most any EMG owner. Its the industry standard. Everyone and there dog has this guy in the bridge. The Ceramic mags give it that bite that everyone just lusts over. A little thin for me so i tried this guy below. Neck is better. Kinda like a Cool Distortion pickup. Very clear and articulate.

60. I use the 60 in the bridge because it has a more focused sound to my ears. It still has that attack that comes from EMG's but its not so compressed sounding. Neck is shimmery and gorgeous. It might be just me. And im not the biggest Emg fan. But it is a nice change from the 81. One love for emg's its easy to swap if you dont like!

And if your wondering. The 85. I used this one for a long time. Very thick sounding. Alinico V instead of ceramic. Friggin sick if you like heavy saturation. And brutal sound for neck ala zakk....nuff said.

Goodluck Man!

Whatever you think sounds best. They can be switched over in about 2 minutes with no soldering required, so there's no reaosn to not try them in both positions. Though yes, usually the 60 is int he neck and the 81 is int he bridge. The 60 has less output, so it fits well in the neck which naturally gives more output; the 81 has a thicker tone so it fits better in the bridge where the tone is naturally thinner.

That said, every EMG pickup has its uses in every position. EMG make their pickups just the same as early 50s pickups in the sense that they don't make 'bridge' or 'neck' models, like most pickup manufacturers do these days. EMG make their pickups to be useful for any position, though whether a particular pickup model in a particular position will suit your personal taste is a completely different story.
