Saint Vitus
I find the lack of any Saint Vitus discussion irritating.
When it came to 80's Doom, Vitus had it fucking made, both the Scott Reagers and Wino periods. Their S/T and Born Too Late are two of the most essential Doom albums ever. And of course, Dave Chandler is right up there with the other great doom axemen Tony Iommi, Victor Griffin and Garry Jennings. |
Havent listened to them in a long while. Great doom though, one of the best of its kind. May well give em another listen.
|
Essential trad. doom, love 'em. Man, the old-school doom is addicting, I can't get enough of it. Metal at its purest.
|
Born Too Late is great.
|
Good shit, anyone ever hear Grief's cover of Angry Man? I've never heard the original (only got Born Too Late) but sounds like a real good song.
|
^I never heard it.
Vitus is great though, probably my fav. traditional doom band, next to Sabbath and Witchfinder. |
Born Too Late is a really good album. The song Fear from Children of Doom is really cool to.
Here's the music video: |
Vitus owns as do all of Wino's other bands...close to the best sabbath-influenced bands ever.
|
Saint Vitus, great band, easiliy one of my all-time non-death/grind faves.
My fav album is Die Healing, great tone. Cool riffs. What else do you want :D |

I wouldn't say that Vitus were Wino's band in the same way that The Obsessed, Spirit Caravan and Hidden Hand are/were, as they had two other singers as well as him, and he wasn't a founding member. But w/e |

Sorry let me rephrase :) ...Every band with Wino owns.... |
Been blasting Hallows Victim and Mournful Cries a ton, probably my favorite two Doom album.Everything is done so perfectly,i find they really have a vibe unlike any other band. So gritty and real, not to mention the fuzzed up wailing solos give me a hard on!
|
I got Mournful Cries on vinyl a while ago because I was looking into expanding both my doom and vinyl collection, but I was pretty disappointed to be honest. It's ok, but nothing out of this world.
|
Really, thats one of my fave albums of all time? What would be"out of this world" doom to you? I have it on vinyl too and i think it sounds incredible.
|
I finally decided to listen to "Bron Too Late" the other day, it was so worth it :D
|
mmm that album is great,Wino does some great vocals in it.
|
Quite simply one of the greatest bands to ever grace metal. No frills, stripped down brilliance. Hail!

Definitely man. Wino's vocals are just too good, and the riffs and solos, and slow, simple drumming are perfect. Saint Vitus are the best traditional doom metal band after the masters of doom, Black Sabbath. |

It almost seems wrong when you post things like that without a beard. EDIT: Just picked up Born Too Late, have yet to listen to it though. It's all new to me! |
you've never listened to Vitus before Sev? or just that album?
