Don't tune up, just by a capo or just play them in different spots. Most bassists I know (jazz guys) do the latter, unless they need an open string for a particular phrase; then the capos the best...

I'd stay away from the bugera.


Tom used mostly Mesa Rects and Marshall JCM900 (I think?) IIRC. He used Vox AC30s and Fender Twins after the (first :haha: ) hiatus and still does with AAA now....

Any nice clean amp with some slap-delay should work, you already have the most important piece: the Gretsch.

Vintage 30's are just the standard for harder music, they sound good and their voicing is well suited for this stuff. most of the bands you posted use them aswell.
