If you've done the simple things like turn it on and checked you leads/cords and it still doesn't work take it to a qualified engineer, electricity...

It was locked solid and as John said it is "shit or bust" and as expected it snapped when he tried to force it...

Active basses do not generally mean active pickups, the pickups are usually the same as a passive bass it is the circuitry under the cover that is active powered by, in most cases, a 9v battery.
