I don't know what you all see when you slate it. I think it's ace. It has such an energy to it that just wows me everytime. It's a really irresistable film.

A couple of years ago I attempted an adaptation of Blood Meridian. The style I had in mind at the time was very Refn-like. Slow, creeping, but angular shots.

That's what I did, but I hear La Strada coming up as most common Fellini entrypoints. Italian cinema has always agreed with me moreso than any other nationalities cinema.

The French plantation scene is much more than 15 minutes. Redux is painful. Stick with the theatrical. I'm pretty sure Coppola is the only person who enjoys the Redux version.

Man, Nashville is so good. Robert Altman has this weird style where it's almost "lazy". So strange, he manages to show you as much as you need with the least amount of effort.

I thought both Rise and Dawn were very, very solid films. I'm not going to pretend that they're masterpieces of cinema, but probably the best "mainstream" film this year.

Saving Private Ryan to me is one of the few times Spielberg dun goofed. That goddamned ending is so ridiculously ham fisted it annoys me. He's too sentimental to make a genuinely great war film.
