Gumtree is your best bet, 2nd hand starter guitars come up there quite a lot. No LP or strat shapes will limit the choices somewhat though :)

I'd also recommend one of the Vox Amplugs, got one as a gift a few years back and love it for convenient practising. You can plug it straight in to the guitar, or use pedals with it too.
