TS, it sounds like you've probably used the bridge height posts to adjust the float, if you're trying to use the truss rod to make the action adjustments...

It looks like tinted nitro, not PU. If you're going to respray with a solid colour, just scuff the surface enough for the new paint to take, then shoot it over. There's no sense in stripping it...

Did you mean that you want to get it closer to ebony in colour? Rosewood is usually only a little darker and deeper than walnut. I'd advise against using a standard black dye - they often give a blue...

It's okay to do both, but boils down to personal taste. Seymour Duncan and some other manufacturers do wax-pot with the cover on, others pack the pickup and solder the covers.

The covers should also be wax-potted onto the pickup, because they can vibrate and give microphonic feedback too. The pickups have already been potted previously, so I'd expect you can leave the tape...

This usually means you have a bad battery...

This usually means you have a bad battery connection, dead battery or the stereo jack has been wired incorrectly. Pickups (EMGs included) very, very rarely die.
