Agree with everything already said don't go too crazy with compression though, as in leave some dynamics. Don't underestimate the importance of room mics as well.

Ah I see, you can't control the internal volume as far as I know, you just have to use you Saffires physical volume control. That's one thing that bugs me about OSX.
