I've got a satin finish on my Martin DX. Something like that would be nice for this guitar.

Press the strings at the 12 fret and pluck them behind between the 12 fret and the nut. If it buzzes, your truss rod is too straight or your nut is too low.

Yeah, man. Acoustics are more sensitive to different string tension than electrics. If you put on heavy gauge strings, that will happen. Also, make sure you didn't tune too high. Google online...
