You don't have to have a driver for a optical drive. You either have a problem with the drive itself or you have a problem with the IDE cable inside the computer. Both of which are cheap to replace.

You cant legally. They call those hack-in-tosh's for a reason. I'd say buy the macbook. I have one and I run Logic Pro 8 perfectly fine with my stock computer and i'm using 32 tracks in this project...

Yeah. The Single rec is 50 watts and the Dual is 100 watts, and the 5150 is 120. So as long as your cab can handle 120 watts you should be fine with whatever you get. It probably is at least 120...
