I haven't tried the combo's, but I have the JCA50H, and love it. The cleans are pretty good, but defiantly not a fender or vox; but the OD channel is amazing. I highly recommend it.

A power supply issue is the first thing that jumps to my mind. Did you use the same PS with both pedals? If so, try it on one of your other pedals and see what happens.

I'm pretty sure you can buy one for less than $40, especially if youre in the USA. I bought mine here for like $32 I do believe. it folds up super small, and it pretty sturdy.
