Or, do what I do. My band plays in drop-C/D-standard, so I downtune my 5-er to GCGCF. That would give you the flexibility to play all those tunings.

I tried steel picks once. All it accomplished was a horrible scratchy tone, and grey dust that got everywhere. Not worth the aggro - get some good ol' dunlop tortexes.
