You need an audio taper pot. Wire doesn't make that much of a difference, just use the spools you can get from radio shack. I would recommend checking guitarfetish pickups. Cheap and pretty good...

Yeah, what doive said. If you mean, like, band practice amp then 30-40 valve is good. Of those mentioned I would go with the vox, but the peavey is probably a bit better suited for the heavier stuff.
