Imo, it's going to be hard making any serious progress on guitar just playing once a week for a few hours. You're much better off playing 30 minutes a day, every day, then 3 hours once a week....

Nope. Pay attention to what notes you are actually playing in a power chord. Their is a root & a 5th. The 3rd string is just the root again played an octave higher.

Don't just replace the one string. If it broke just from tuning then the strings are either really old or total crap....
