I wouldn't go beyond a 68 or a 70 on a 28.5 tbh, I find an 80 works well on a 25.5'', a 74 would be my pick for a 27. 28.5 is.....long.

I'd use an 85 for a low C# on a 30''

EDIT: Admittedly, I did have to move the saddle...

I wouldnt go below an 80 for an F.

Your low F will feel a bit floppy even if you get it tension matched to the other strings, the string is so thick that it seems to sort of "bounce" when you pick...

Locally made strings?

So I've been using DAddario's Exl 140-8 string set, and im frankly fed up with it. The middle strings have a tension of 27lbs, while the thinnest and thickest strings have tensions as low as 16,...

Try Circle K strings, I've heard quite a lot of good about them.

That said, if the same strings keep snapping, you probably have a sharp saddle.

Sennheissers are usually good, the HD205II is about USD70 I think, quite nice for the money, more or less flattish, bass is strong but controlled, mild upper mid spike, very clear sounding.
